What is CBD

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the main natural components found in the Cannabis sativa L. plant. Unlike THC, it is not a psychoactive substance: this means that it does not alter perception, it does not make you ‘high’ and is not addictive. It is a molecule that has a smart interaction with our body, promoting the restoration of physiological homeostasis altered by trauma, disease or other external factors.

How does it work?

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, a biological network involved in regulating key functions such as sleep, stress, mood, inflammatory response and overall balance. It does not ‘force’ the body to do anything: it helps it to recover its natural state of harmony.

Known properties of CBD

Scientific research – still evolving and continuously expanding – indicates that CBD may offer several positive effects, including:

  • Myorelaxant and anticonvulsant: Muscle relaxation
  • Managing anxiety, stress and depression: through the SEC, it acts on serotonin and dopamine receptors, regulating their production.
  • Anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving action: useful for muscle and joint pain.
  • Improving sleep: promoting relaxation improves sleep quality.
  • Neuroprotective effect: various studies suggest great potential in treating neurodegenerative and chronic diseases.
  • Antiemetic: it can reduce nausea.
  • Soothing and rebalancing when applied topically for eczema, dermatitis, acne and psoriasis.
CBD, CBG, CBN, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Hemp is not just CBD: it contains more than 400 molecules, including cannabinoids and terpenes, each with different functions. Some of the most researched are CBD, CBG and CBN, three theoretically similar molecules that interact differently with our bodies.

CBG – The forefather

CBG (cannabigerol) is the first compound to appear in the plant: CBD, THC and many other compounds are derived from it. It has no psychoactive effects and is researched for its stimulating properties on mental clarity and mood balance, as well as for its anti-inflammatory potential and support for the digestive system.

CBN – The most relaxing of the three

CBN (cannabinol) develops over time when THC oxidises. In legal products, it has no psychoactive effects and is drawing attention from researchers for its possible relaxing properties and interesting role in sleep quality. It is often considered a cannabinoid for the evening, ideal for unwinding.

CBD – The great balancer

CBD is the best-known compound: it interacts harmoniously with the endocannabinoid system, contributing to relaxation, stress management, joint well-being and better rest. In this case too, there is no mental alteration, only natural support for the balance of the body.

In short, the main differences are:

  • CBD: versatile and focused on overall balance.
  • CBG: the forefather, with potential effects on mental clarity, mood, and inflammation reduction.
  • CBN: the most relaxing, mainly linked to rest.

None of them are psychoactive or addictive
